On that bomb shell: Jeremy Clarkson says something positive about a caravan - an Airstream travel trailer to be precise ...

Top Gear presenter and notorious scourge of the caravan industry, Jeremy Clarkson, recently outed himself in front of millions of viewers across the world by saying something positive about a caravan – an Airstream travel trailer to be precise.

Hollywood movie star Andy Garcia – one of several A list stars who has fallen for Airstreams' good looks - was enthusing about his 34 foot silver bullet trailer, in reply to which Clarkson openly admitted that Airstreams "look very good".

However, just as Airstream enthusiasts the world over were jumping off their sofas in premature celebration, he wrongly added that 'streamers must use a bucket for certain bodily functions.

In fact, as you dear reader will know, European specification Airstreams don't just look good but feature spacious bathrooms, extensively equipped with the finest porcelain bathroom fixtures (see above).

Airstream trailer insurance made easy

Owners of Airstreams can now take the stress out of hunting for insurance for their pride and joy by taking out Airstream-specific policies. The insurance, provided by TL Dallas & Co Ltd, is sold at a standard annual charge for each model, as set out below.

Bambi - £788; 532 - £1,050; 534 - £1,103; 684 - £1,313.

Airstream Europe Sales Director Michael Hold said: "This offer is refreshingly different because it is Airstream model-specific, rather than being specific to the owner's address or claims history. This means there is now no need to spend hours checking out insurance websites or being given a grilling by their call centres."

Beware the green-eyed monster

Even celebrities can suffer a case of the green-eyed monster when it comes to caravanning. Following TV presenter Suzi Perry's admission of love for silver bullets, Jade Jagger – the designer daughter of rock-and-roll legend Mick - has also declared a jealous streak. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph the former model confesses that she gets envious where other people's "bigger caravans" are concerned and that what she "really wants is a nice, shiny Airstream".

To keep your green-eyed monster at bay, give Michael Hold at Airstream Europe a call on 015396-24141.

Seddon Direct

With the camping and caravanning season in full swing, its vital that holidaymakers and festival-goers alike think about ensuring that they have enough power for their needs before setting off.

To help you make the right choice, Seddon Direct has launched its Generator Calculator. Designed for both novices and experts, the selector helps you choose the right generator, even if you don't know what you need, by taking you through a list of devices that you’ll be using, such as TVs, hairdryers and computers. Simply select which devices will be used on the holiday, and you will be taken to a list of relevant generators.

"Some of our customers won't be familiar with which generator and how much power they will need which is why we have launched the Selector tool," explained Phil Winnington of Seddon Direct. "By providing (customers) with a list of possible appliances (they) will be using, the website can give a list of generators to suit (their) needs."

Visit the Generator Calculator for more information.

Airstream Diner

As customised Airstreams go this diner at Munich Airport has to be one of the most whacky. After a bit of modification, Smokey Joe's Cafe is now part travel trailer, part aeroplane and features a cockpit, wings and engine. It's surely the most stylish way to satisfy your hunger while catching a flight.

Have you seen an unusual or converted Airstream on your travels? If so, why not send in your pictures and we'll share the best ones with your fellow 'Streamers. Email your pictures to martin@samuelsonwylie.com
