The 684 is truly THE Ultimate Travel Trailer, own one of these and you will not stop planning your next getaway whether a week break, or a grand tour of Europe. 

First available in 2007, it quickly won a succession of awards across Europe.  In the UK, it won the Caravan Club Caravan Design Awards 'Any Caravan £19,000 and over' category 3 years running from 2008-2010.  

Replacing this best selling model after 5 years was therefore a tough act for the Airstream Europe design team.   ‘We resisted the temptation to do minor tweaks, we felt only a fresh start from a blank sheet of paper would deliver a next generation version that beats the original on all levels’.

The 684 Series 2 builds on the already proven 684 Series 1 floorplan, it uses the same size shell and the same chassis, but internally it is all new – hardly a single piece of the original joinery survived.   So whilst looking from outside reveals a few hints of the changes – different window positions etc., it is not until you step inside that the extent of change sinks in. 

Step inside and you can't help react to the new interior - 'wow' is on most people's lips.   The new décor of the Series 2 is more ‘loft apartment’ than caravan, the signature of the new joinery is revealed just inside the entrance door with 40mm thick worktops with flowing radius corners that have a solidity reminiscent of Riva boats.    Finished in Formica ‘Ebony’ laminate, there is a harmonious balance between these dark elements and the lighter materials used elsewhere.

The Series 2 floorplan does somehow offer more than the Series 1 version in almost all areas – 15cm wider shower, 10cm longer kitchen, 30cm longer seating, additional wardrobe providing 5 clothes shelves.  The new trailer now boasts a total of 12 drawers – double the previous quantity.   There is a new dedicated storage space for laptops and books, plus even a bespoke can holder in the wardrobe for extra beer.

A big bonus in the new layout is a true bedroom suite – opening the bathroom door by 90 degrees creates a private bed/ bath/ dressing area, separate from the front of the trailer.  Also in the Series 2 model, both the wardrobe and bathroom partitions are set at an angle, which greatly increases space and views.

Corian worktops are offered as standard in the bathroom and an optional upgrade in the kitchen, where the upgrade package includes a clever rotating worktop extension and residential style undermounted Franke sink, with Corian drop in lid.

Lurking beneath the seats etc. are many further changes and improvements on systems design.   ‘With the Series 2, a big goal in the design phase was to look at the most common after sales complaints and try and design these out of the trailer, to increase customer satisfaction using it.   With the systems and technologies, we have sought next generation solutions – like soft close drawers for example – but equally in some other areas, we have simplified and taken decisions to reduce complexity in order to improve reliability'.
